Solar is Part of the Jackson Family Legacy: Mike Jackson Farms

“Premier Renewables has done an outstanding job with all of our solar projects. They helped us every step of the way, from working with the utilities, installation, and working with our finance company. It has been a pleasure doing business with them.”

– Mike Jackson, Mike Jackson Farms

Those who live in the Central Valley of California have likely consumed a product grown by the Jackson Family. With six featured brands that represent the generations of Jackson families running the farm, it’d be hard not to.

From the day Herschel Jackson established his farm in the San Joaquin Valley, California, the Jackson family has introduced new varieties of fruits, land, and, throughout subsequent generations, solar energy with the help of Premier Renewables. The Jackson’s have now been growing fruit in the Kingsburg, California area for five generations and since the days of Herschel Jackson, have become the largest grower, shipper, and packer of stone fruit in San Joaquin Valley.

Premier was first approached by the Jackson family to build a 1.1 MW DC single axis ground tracker in 2010. Over the years, Premier has completed numerous solar projects for the Jackson family’s facilities with the most recent solar addition being a roof solar mount for Cornerstone, their packing and cooling facility.

To this date, Premier has completed seven solar projects for the Jackson family. In total, their land is home to approximately 23,000 solar panels. Once the current roof mount project is completed for Cornerstone, they’ll have enough combined solar energy to power the equivalent of over 800 homes. Solar will be an integral part of the Jackson Farms operation far into the future, reducing their production costs significantly and helping them reduce their carbon footprint.

Gleanings for the Hungry – Solar Helps

Gleanings For The Hungry is no stranger to helping people in need, and with a mission to “to feed the hungry, both physically and spiritually,” they’ve done just that and continue to do so.
The nonprofit organization hosts more than 3,000 people a year to create a team of volunteers to collect, process, and distribute excess produce and products to people around the world who are in need. Recently, their work has benefited refugees and natural disaster victims.

Gleanings offers volunteers of all ages, youth groups, families, and individuals the opportunity, and a place to stay, to make an impact and help the less fortunate.
During the summer, Gleanings sun-dries nectarines and peaches for distribution. Throughout the year, volunteers put together dried soup mix with various donated ingredients.

Premier was approached by Gleanings to provide solar to their facilities to help offset production costs to help operate more efficiently as a non-profit. As a result, Premier’s team designed and installed a 261 kw DC ground solar array for Gleanings which was completed in early 2018.
The ground array is designed to generate 443,339 kWh’s per year which will significantly reduce their production costs. The energy it produces helps Gleanings power volunteer quarters and their packing house, the building in which the most important processes happen.

Solar energy allows Gleanings For The Hungry to channel the budget that would have gone to their electricity bill to other needed areas, lifting some of the financial strain nonprofits inevitably experience. Premier Renewables is proud to do our part in helping Gleanings to provide food for the hungry more efficiently with solar energy.
